Sarasota Pen Women

Cultivating Creativity Since 1957

The National League of American Pen Women – Sarasota Branch is dedicated to promoting and conducting literary, educational, and charitable activities in the fields of Letters, Art, and Music. Our mission is to encourage, recognize, and support the creation of professional-quality work in the fine arts.

Community Outreach

Our flagship community program, "Launching Leaders in the Arts," supports college-bound high school seniors in Sarasota and Manatee County public schools. Through an annual competition in Letters, Art, and Music, we provide awards ranging from $250 to $2,000, empowering young artists to pursue their creative dreams.

Member Activities

We host an annual art exhibition for our visual arts members at local galleries and art centers, along with engaging panel discussions at the Selby Library for our Letters members. Each year, we present “An Artist’s Journey,” a panel where Sarasota Pen Women share their creative passions and processes in writing, art, and music. Many of our members have achieved recognition at the state and national levels through competitions and biennial awards.

National and Local Impact

Our members’ talents are also celebrated nationally through "The Pen Woman," a quarterly magazine published in Washington, D.C., showcasing the creative work of members from over 80 branches nationwide.
