Marie Garafano
Marie, a Philadelphia native, was a freelance graphic designer and illustrator for 30 years, working for corporate clients and publishers before moving to Florida in 2008.
She illustrated a chapter book for Houghton Mifflin called Ginger Goes on a Diet, a book about a foster child and her cat.
Marie has painted in watercolor and oil; still life, portrait and landscape. She paints en plain air with SRQ Plain Air Painters of the Suncoast and The Light Chasers of Sarasota.
Her work is held in many private collections.
Marie explains her art through this incredible artist statement: “I am attracted to the quiet moment, whether in a still-life or a landscape. Plein air painting is about the light. I hope to touch the viewer with a moment in time. To notice that which might be overlooked. Cornell West called it finding the sublime in the ordinary.”
